How can I prepare for the interview?
To prepare for the interview, you should review your knowledge of library and information science, as well as the specific library and institution you are applying for. You should also practice answering common and in-depth interview questions that may be asked by the interviewer. Here are some tips and resources to help you:
- Review the syllabus and topics of library and information science that you studied in your master’s degree. You can also refer to some online quizzes and question banks to test your knowledge and refresh your memory.
- Research the library and institution you are applying for. Learn about their history, vision, mission, goals, services, projects, and achievements. You can visit their official website and social media pages, as well as read some news articles and reports about them.
- Prepare some examples of your past achievements and experiences as a librarian. Think of some situations where you demonstrated your skills, such as customer service, organization, communication, problem-solving, teamwork, etc. Use the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) to structure your answers and provide specific details and outcomes.
- Anticipate some common and in-depth interview questions that may be asked by the interviewer. You can find some examples of librarian interview questions and answers on the internet. Practice answering them aloud or with a friend or family member. Try to be confident, clear, and concise in your responses. Avoid giving vague or generic answers, but rather, tailor your answers to the specific library and institution you are applying for.
- Dress professionally and appropriately for the interview. Arrive on time and bring a copy of your resume, certificates, and other relevant documents. Greet the interviewer politely and thank them for the opportunity. Be attentive, respectful, and enthusiastic throughout the interview. Ask some questions at the end of the interview to show your interest and curiosity. Follow up with a thank-you email or note after the interview.
